Code of Conduct

The Coastal Lacrosse Club (CLC) will establish and abide by a strict Code of Conduct governing all coaches, players, and parents. The purpose of the Code is to ensure that all of the people associated with the club and its programs treat each other with dignity and respect.

The Code of Conduct is a condition of membership for all players, parents, and coaches.  All members of CLC must agree to abide by the Code of Conduct and to be subjected to the consequences of violating the Code. It is understood that by enrolling into the CLC program that players, parents and coaches are all bound by this Code of Conduct and its validity is hereby a matter of record and is not dependant upon physical signature.

All enforcement decisions made by the officials of CLC and the leagues in which it plays are final and are not subject to review. No refunds will be granted to those players dismissed from the club for violating the Code of Conduct.

CLC CODE OF CONDUCT

Players

It is expected that all CLC participants read and understand the Player's Code of Conduct and continue to observe and follow all the principles contained within the Code throughout the year.

1.      Respect your teammates, coaches, referees and opponents at all times.

2.      Know the rules of the game and abide by them.

3.      No swearing or abusive language on the bench, at the field, or at any team function.

4.      No lashing out at any official no matter what the call is. The coaching staff will handle all matters pertaining to officiating.

5.      Anyone who receives a penalty will abide by the penalty rules.

6.      Fighting will not be tolerated.

7.      I will conduct myself in a befitting manner at all playing fields, both home and away, during all team functions.

8.      Set a positive example. Both on and off the field you represent Coastal Lacrosse Club and should behave in a way that befits CLC and all those associated.

9.      Support and encourage your teammates. Display good sportsmanship at all times on and off the field.

10.  Be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.

11.  Any player who cannot abide by these rules or violates them will be subject to further disciplinary action.

Parents

It is expected that all parents of CLC participants read and understand the Parent’s Code of Conduct and continue to observe and follow all the principles contained within the Code throughout the year.

1.      I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflict without resorting to hostility or violence.

2.      I will teach my child that doing one’s best is as important as winning so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of the game.  I will make my child feel like a winner every time by offering praise for competing fairly and hard.

3.      I will never ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or losing a game.

4.      I will remember that children learn by example (I am a role model).  I will teach and practice good sportsmanship at all games and practices. I will applaud good plays by both my child’s team and their opponents.  I will not be critical of or embarrass any player including opposition players.

5.      I will never question the official’s judgment or honesty in public.  I recognize that officials are being developed in the same manner as players.

6.      I will respect and show appreciation for the volunteers who give their time to provide team sports for my child.

7.      I will never yell, taunt, threaten or inflict physical violence upon any player, coach, official or spectator at any CLC sports activity.  I will refrain from the use of abusive or vulgar language, racial, ethnic or gender-related slurs at any time at the field or any CLC function

8.      I will leave the coaching to the coaching staff.  I will encourage my child to play in a manner consistent with the team’s strategy or plans.

9.      I will recognize the importance of volunteers, coaches, and officials and communicate with and support them.

10.  I will adhere to the 24-Hour Rule.  I recognize that if I wish to speak to the head coach regarding my child’s lack of playing time or other similar issue, I must wait a minimum of 24 hours following a game or scrimmage before contacting the coach to discuss my concerns.

11.  I will emphasize skill development and a serious approach to practices and explain how skill development will benefit my child.

12.  I will attempt to learn about the game of my child’s sport (rules, equipment, levels, skills, etc.) so that I may best support my child’s development in the game

13.  I will communicate all and any concerns regarding inappropriate behavior to the Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Manager, or CLC representative.

14.  I will insist that my child plays in a safe and healthy environment.  I will support a sports environment that is free of alcohol, drugs or tobacco and I will refrain from the use at all youth sports events.

15.  I understand the benefits from participating in a team sport, the commitments, the discipline and the social skills learned and acquired.

16.  I will remember that my child plays CLC sports for his or her enjoyment, not mine.

Coaches

It is expected that all CLC Coaches read and understand the Coach's Code of Conduct and continue to observe and follow all the principles contained within the Code throughout the year.

1.      I will do my best to learn the fundamental skill, teaching and evaluation techniques, and strategies of my sport.

2.      I will become thoroughly familiar with the rules of my sport.

3.      I will become familiar with the mission of the Coastal Lacrosse Club (CLC). I will strive to achieve these objectives and communicate them to players and their parents.

4.      I will uphold the authority of the officials assigned to the game in which I coach and I will assist them in everyway to conduct fair and impartial, competitive games.

5.      I will not be openly critical of any players on my team, opposing teams, officials, coaches or spectators.

6.      I will maintain self-control at all times.

7.      I will learn the strengths and weaknesses of my players so that I might place them in situations where they have a maximum opportunity to achieve success.

8.      I will conduct my practices and games so that all players have an opportunity to improve their skill level through active participation.

9.      I will attempt to teach my players to work hard to win, but not to win at all cost.

10.  I will communicate to my players and their parents the responsibilities of individuals on our team.

11.  I will respect other coaches in the CLC and work with them to ensure maximum benefit to our players.

12.  I will cooperate with the CLC in the enforcement of rules and regulations.
